Foggy mornings are so beautiful. I bet every artist would love to capture that feeling in a painting.
First published September 2, 2023: My latest online course used only one color of paint (my favorite): Payne’s Gray. I love monocolor work. I assume it comes from my background as a print shop owner for 25 years. Most of our work was using black ink. And when we used colors it was usually just one or two colors (picture business cards, for instance).
So I was especially happy to start this class with Susan Chiang (paintwithmecommunity.com). She offers three lessons and one bonus challenge. I did the mountain mists and the trees mists. She encourages the students to work small — I used 9×6 watercolor paper.
I expected to use big brushes to get the look of fog. But Susan does a great job of showing the artist how working with small brushes gives a great feathering effect of movement to the mist. I don’t want to give away her secrets to success, but her class is only $22.00 and well worth it.
I think that I still struggle with patience in my painting. I get antsy when detail is involved. But I had to concentrate and work quickly to make this painting work. I am very happy with it:

We have beautiful misty mornings in Michigan in August and September. I can’t wait to try this with just a deep green and see how it works.
This was another class I received as part of the Art Bundles For Good package. Such a deal and it has given me so much joy!
Hope you give it a try…
Happy Arting this week…
